Privacy policy

Purple Merchant (ABN 40 840 454 801) respects your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect when you shop with us, how we use it and the choices you have. We handle your information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to look after you as a customer:
- your name and contact details, along with your billing and delivery addresses
- your order history and the details needed to process each order
- anything you share with us when you get in touch, join our mailing list or leave a review
- the standard technical information every website receives, such as browser type and the pages you visit, which helps the site run smoothly.
Your card details never reach us. Payments are processed securely by Shopify Payments and its banking partners under PCI-DSS standards, and we see only the confirmation that payment was made.
How we use it
- to prepare, deliver and follow up your orders, including click and collect
- to answer your questions and look after returns
- to send news and offers, only if you have asked to receive them; every email includes an unsubscribe link, and one click is all it takes
- to keep the business and tax records the law requires
- to keep improving the boutique, online and in store.
We never sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
Only the partners who help us serve you: Shopify, which hosts our store; our payment providers; Australia Post, which delivers your parcels; and our professional advisors where the law requires it. Each receives only what it needs for its part of your order. As with almost every Australian online store, some of these providers store data securely on servers outside Australia. We choose partners whose privacy protections meet Australian standards.
Cookies
Like every online store, our website uses cookies to remember your cart, keep you signed in and help us understand which pages are most loved. You can switch cookies off in your browser, though parts of the site may not work quite as smoothly.
How long we keep it
Only as long as we genuinely need it, or as long as the law requires. Tax records, for example, must be kept for several years.
Your choices and rights
You are welcome at any time to ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or unsubscribe from marketing. Email hello@purplemerchant.com.au and we will respond within 30 days. If you ever feel we have fallen short, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Keeping it safe
We protect your information with careful physical and technical safeguards, and we review them regularly.
